Marshalleq has lived in New Zealand his entire life. He started writing about what it's actually like to live here — the costs, the cities, the trade-offs — because most of what he found online was either promotional or out of date. He has also spent extended time in Australia and has a second home in Colombia, with travel across South America. During COVID he found himself unable to leave Australia and began planning to stay permanently, from this he came away with a first-hand sense of what it takes to put down roots somewhere new. The site grew from that experience. He is working toward spending an extended period living abroad, and wanted to understand what moving countries actually involves — the real costs, the visa routes, the things people do not tell you until after you arrive. For New Zealand, Australia, and Colombia, the articles draw on direct experience. For the other countries covered here, he is straight about his method: official statistics, government sources, and the accounts of people who have made each move, synthesised and checked rather than invented.
